Views of the Snow Covered La Plata Mountains on the 2-hour Ranch Ride.
If you’re looking for the ultimate western experience, join us on our two-hour horseback ride which travels through the Gambel Oak and Ponderosa Pine foothills and (if the weather permits) reaches Rincon Ridge Saddle, which has magnificent views of the Florida River Valley to the west and the Pine River Valley to the east.
Our one-hour horseback ride is for those with less time who still want to experience the magnificent forest land of Durango. There are incredible views of the Palmer Quarter Horse ranch (which is why this ride is called the Ranch View Ridge Ride) as we crest the ridge that is composed of the geologic layers making up the northern end of the San Juan Basin.
If you want a longer ride, our three-hour horseback ride covers some of the longer and slightly more adventurous trails on the ranch and climaxes with a 360 degree view at the 8135 feet high Vista Grande Point. From there you’ll appreciate a gorgeous view of the Durango area and the La Plata Mountains.
Our rides are not flat! We ride through valleys, up mountains, over ridges and all of our rides end up in the riparian area of the Florida River, which passes through the ranch. If the river is not too high, we ride across the Florida, allowing the horses to drink and cool off.
